Service Tech Uriah Rugg: Bazooka Farmstar’s Latest Bigger Than Us Gamechanger
September 17, 2024
In a heartwarming display of community spirit and quick thinking, Uriah Rugg, a Service Technician at Bazooka Farmstar, has been honored with the prestigious Bigger Than Us Gamechanger award. This recognition celebrates individuals who embody the principle that “We are more than just the work we do. Make time for family and community.”
A Veteran at Bazooka Farmstar
Uriah has been an integral part of the Bazooka Farmstar team for six years, making this his third Gamechanger award. His journey with the company began when he sought a better opportunity, leveraging his prior experience in custom application work as he joined the team as a welder.
A Life-Saving Act of Heroism
The event that led to Uriah’s recognition is nothing short of heroic. While returning from a service call, Uriah noticed a woman in distress on the side of the road. Upon investigation, he discovered a young child choking. Without hesitation, Uriah sprang into action, successfully performing the Heimlich maneuver and dislodging the object from the child’s throat.
Recounting the incident, Uriah remains humble: “I’ve had to perform the Heimlich maneuver before, so I stayed calm during the entire event.” His quick thinking and willingness to help undoubtedly saved a life that day.
Recognition and Surprise
Uriah was on another service call when the award was announced. He only learned about his recognition upon returning and reading the nomination. “I was surprised, and it felt good,” Uriah admits, adding that he was “at the right place at the right time.”
His nominator praised his actions, noting, “This is way more than the work we do on a daily basis at Bazooka. Knowing someone outside our walls needed help, Uriah stepped in and saved that life.”
Advice for Future Gamechangers
When asked what advice he’d give to others aspiring to win this award, Uriah’s response encapsulates the spirit of the recognition: “Make time for the community and do the right thing when you have the opportunity to.”
More Than Just a Service Tech
Beyond his professional life, Uriah has a fascinating hobby—he raises and shows rabbits and currently has 25. “I’ve been doing it for roughly 18 years, and it all started at the Washington County Fair showing as a 4H exhibitor,” he shares.
This passion has influenced his choice of the Washington County Fairboard’s Rabbit Barn Project as his selected not-for-profit organization to support with his award. “I selected them because I enjoy watching kids get into the rabbit project and learn,” Uriah explains.
