Remote Operated Booms Ease Manure Agitation and Pump Operations
August 9, 2023
Here comes the boom. Remote control.
As cliché as it may sound, pumping manure is about working smarter, not harder. This exact cliché was one of the driving factors behind our decision to add and continue to offer and upgrade remote operated boom functionality on the Renegade 1 and Renegade 2 Agitation Trailer, Outlaw Force-Feed Trailer, and Full Throttle Outlaw Force-Feed Trailer booms. It may seem like a “nice-to-have” feature, but once you see what it can do, it will make it to your must-have list.
The biggest reported benefit from this remote feature is that whoever is operating the boom can step away from the trailer-bound controls. There are plenty of reasons this comes in handy, namely it’s easier to accurately place the pump inside the pit and to maneuver around obstacles. If you’ve pumped on a hog farm, you know this is big (like many of the obstacles in your way).

Watch the remote operated boom in action:
To all the boom operators out there who have mastered the task of hitting the pit from a distance on the first attempt, you’ve officially earned rock-star status. For some operators, it can take several attempts to get the boom in the proper pumping position. (No shame, pump placement is no small feat.) The high visibility and controllability of this remote function will save you set-up time by allowing you to get pump placement right the first time.
We’ll repeat it:
Work smarter, not harder.
Why Operators Love Remote Operated Booms
Operating a manure pump’s boom by remote, rather than from the trailer-bound controls, can offer several benefits and advantages for the manure pumper.
- Safety: Manure pumping can be a hazardous task, especially when dealing with large volumes of manure, heavy equipment, and moving booms. Remote operation allows the operator to operate the boom from a safe distance, improving line-of-sight and reducing the risk of accidents.
- Efficiency: Remote control allows the operator to position the boom precisely and make adjustments as needed without having to constantly move back and forth to the static controls, saving time and effort.
- Precision: Using a remote control, the operator can make fine adjustments to the boom’s position in real time and with a clear view of the pit.

While remote operated booms offer many advantages, it’s crucial to go through proper training and to adhere to safety protocols for the equipment as well as for manure pumping or handling. Remote control systems should be reliable and well-maintained to ensure safe and efficient operation.
