Meet Luis Guerra: Leading by Example
Luis has been part of the Bazooka Farmstar family for over six years, specializing as a Lead Welder for hose reels. After a brief departure to explore other opportunities, Luis returned about six months ago—a decision that speaks volumes about the unique culture we’ve built here.
“I left to try something different, but quickly realized that I missed the environment that Bazooka offered,” Luis explains. “Bazooka treats their employees like humans rather than a number. It’s more of a family-run business.”
What Makes Luis a Gamechanger
This quarter’s recognition stems from Luis’s exceptional response to a workplace incident involving one of his team members. When faced with an unfortunate work injury, Luis didn’t just react—he took immediate, comprehensive action to ensure both the immediate care of his colleague and the long-term safety of his entire team.
Multiple nominators highlighted Luis’s quick thinking following the incident. He immediately began developing corrective actions to prevent similar situations from recurring, specifically focusing on how the team applies hose reel skins to their respective reels. Thanks to Luis’s proactive approach, his team can now perform this task both more safely and more efficiently.
But Luis’s dedication went beyond process improvement. He personally ensured his injured team member received proper care, assisting them to the first aid room and making sure all appropriate personnel were notified. This combination of systematic thinking and genuine care for his colleagues perfectly embodies our safety-first culture.
A Natural Approach to Safety Leadership
When asked about his recognition, Luis remained characteristically humble: “I felt like I did what was the right thing to do for my coworker. I didn’t expect to get that recognition, so it was a surprise.”
His advice for others seeking to make a similar impact? “For me, it was natural and to just be safe. It’s something you just do because it’s the right thing, not to be recognized.”
This mindset reflects what Luis loves most about working at Bazooka Farmstar: “Everyone here thinks about others’ safety, not just their own. If someone sees me do something wrong, we call each other out or stop by and assist. It’s a tribal thing—everyone is willing to help you out to work safely.”

Luis’s experience highlights what makes Bazooka Farmstar special. As he puts it, “It’s a learning experience—you learn something every day and it’s a great vibe. If you don’t know the answer, there are many around willing to help you.”

Beyond the Workplace
When Luis isn’t leading his team at Bazooka Farmstar, he treasures time with his 17-year-old son. Whether they’re fishing, working in the garage, or exploring new places together, Luis values these moments before his son heads off to start his own adventures.
As part of his Gamechanger recognition, Luis selected Latinos for Washington, Inc. as his chosen nonprofit. This organization hosts the Latino Festival in town, providing valuable cultural learning experiences. “You can take the experience of the food, the people, and the environment and learn so much from this group,” Luis shares, demonstrating his commitment to community building and cultural understanding.
