Skyler, a Design Engineer at Bazooka Farmstar, has been with the company for just over a year — but in that time, he’s made an impression that goes far beyond his job title. This quarter, he was named the Q2 Bigger Than Us Gamechanger, an award that recognizes someone who truly lives out one of Bazooka Farmstar’s core values: We are more than just the work we do. Make time for family and community.
What made Skyler’s recognition especially meaningful? He didn’t just receive one nomination. He received three — each from a different person, each telling a completely different story. Together, they paint a portrait of a man who shows up, every time, in every corner of his life.
The Man Behind the Role
Skyler came to Bazooka Farmstar looking for exactly what he found: a place rooted in agriculture, close to home, and full of opportunity. “I wanted to be with an employer in the ag industry and a local opportunity,” he says. “This position offered both and was a fit.”
What’s kept him here is the energy of the place. “Fast paced, and everyone seems to be willing to work together. There’s always something to do and the opportunity to wear many hats.” For someone with Skyler’s can-do attitude, that kind of environment isn’t just comfortable — it’s energizing.
Three Stories. One Character.
When the nominations came in, something stood out right away: no two nominators told the same story. But they all pointed to the same person.
The first spoke to who Skyler is outside of work. He’s active in his church, farms, helps his wife run her kettle corn business — now four years strong, showing up at weekly farmers markets and vendor shows — and still puts his three daughters first. Balancing all of that, his nominator said, would be enough for the award on its own. But Skyler brings that same energy to work too, introducing tools and processes that keep the team organized, and setting up his “office” wherever on the property the job needs him.
The second came from April 17th, when tornadoes tore through the area. That Saturday, Skyler didn’t sit back and watch. He rallied a group, loaded up their own equipment, and headed out to help a church member clear five large fallen trees. They knocked it out in just a few hours. Nobody asked him to. He just went.
The third was quieter — but no less powerful. A coworker was physically struggling to reach their work area. Skyler noticed. Without hesitation, he stepped in and made sure they got there safely. No fanfare, no announcement. Just one person looking out for another.
Three nominations. Three different examples. All pointing to the same truth: Skyler makes it more than just the work inside the walls of Bazooka Farmstar.
Surprised, But Not Changing a Thing
When Skyler found out he’d won, his reaction was simple: “Surprised. Good to know that I am being noticed.”
That’s Skyler. Not doing it for the recognition — just doing what feels right, and being genuinely caught off guard when others take note.
If you asked him how to earn this award yourself, he wouldn’t overthink it. “Be willing to lend a hand in house and also wherever you can in the community. From volunteering to giving to someone that needs help.” The formula, in his view, isn’t complicated. It just requires actually showing up.
Faith, Family, and Farmstar
Outside of work, life at the Davis household is full. Three daughters. A farm. A kettle corn business. Faith Baptist Church on the weekends. “Kids always come first,” Skyler says. “Play around on the farm and partake in one of the many activities I have.”
It’s a life built on participation — in family, in faith, in community. And it’s no coincidence that the same spirit shows up every day at work.
Paying It Forward
As part of his Gamechanger recognition, Skyler directed a $100 donation to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that builds and delivers beds to children in need.
His reason was simple and generous: “Sometimes others need a helping hand with their own kids — so helping them to have a better sleeping situation and a way to feel what most think is normal is a good cause.”
For an organization still growing its reach, that kind of support — and that kind of visibility — matters.
Skyler Davis has been at Bazooka Farmstar for just over a year. In that time, he’s quietly become exactly the kind of person this award was created to celebrate. Not because he’s trying to win anything. But because being bigger than us is simply how he lives.
